Movie Club: Amélie

"Without you, today's podcasts would be the scurf of yesterday's."

Amélie came out 25 years ago and immediately became an international hit and surprise awards player. We’re 25 years late to podcast about it, but as Amélie Poulain says, “I had two heart attacks, an abortion, did crack... while I was pregnant. Other than that, I’m fine.”

With that said, Taylor Eisenhauer and I broke down the sentimental French romantic-comedy, which was a critical watch for our guest growing up, and one that I’ve never fully seen. Until now, that is.

If you’ve checked out basically any arthouse movie since the early 2000s, you’ve probably seen a little bit of Amélie. And so, it only feels right that it’s made the venerated Aerial Shot: Movie Club list.

Throw Amélie up in the rafters right next to Twilight, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Little Women, Gremlins, The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. What a normal collection of movies.

It’s a great episode (at least, in my opinion) with only minimal arguing, some cat talk and me not knowing how to pronounce sepia. Hey, that’s podcasting! Play the song:
